سؤالي عن عقار Effexor
الذي أعرفه عنه أنه antidepressant
و لكن ما علاقته بعلاج حالات ال coma كما ذكر لي أحد الزملاء أنه يتم استخدامه لذلك في أمريكا
و ما هي جرعاته و side effects and contraindications

Efexor, is a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI)(Venlafaxine)which has three main indications:
1. Depression (NOT the first line of treatment, it is often effective for depression not responding to SSRIs such as Philozac.)
2. Panic disorder
3. Anxiety disorders
Other INVESTIGATIONAL USES, treatment of diabetic neuropathy, migraine prophylaxis, reducing the severity of 'hot-flashes' in menopausal women, reducing episodes of cataplexy, a form of muscle weakness, in patients with the sleep disorder narcolepsy.
I have no idea about its use in treatment of coma in the US, no source mentions this.
Contraindications:
1. Hypersensitivity to drug
2. NEVER to be used MAOI or SSRIs, they will lead to fatal serotonin syndrome. At least 14 days time lag are required between the intake of venlafaxine and MAO inhibitors.
3. Glaucoma
4. Pregnancy, labor, and delivery
5. Hypertension
Adverse effects:
1. Lack of s-e-x-u-a-l desire is common
2. Increased risk of suicide
3. Serotonin Syndrome, rare but serious
4. Other Common side effects: Nausea (decreased with the use of extended release capsules), Headache, Constipation, Dizziness, Fatigue, Insomnia, Dry mouth, Sweating, Orthostatic hypotension, Increased blood pressure, Decreased Appetite
5. Overdose: CNS depression, serotonin toxicity, seizure, or cardiac conduction abnormalities.
Form:
Available as Efexor XR 150 mg extended release capsules Or 75 mg capsules
