About
The Prodigy always understood the need for visceral energy in dance music. What made them unique at the time of their debut in 1991 was the fusing of punk sounds and mores with the emergent acid house beats of the dancefloor. This glowstick-with-a-safety-pin-through-it attitude was made manifest by front man Keith Flint, a snarling manic Johnny Rotten for the club crowd, but the true soul of the group was techno boffin Liam Howlett. Liam was a local Es*** DJ at a time when one could say the word rave without fear of scorn or imprisonment. He had seen the effect of a big track on the right crowd and was keen to try his hand at some original compositions. Keith Flint and Leeroy Thornhill had heard Liam spin and pestered him for mix tapes and examples of his songs. Before long they were working together, taking their name from Liam's Moog synthesizer. Their debut was "What Evil Lurks" (1991) but it was the second effort "Charly" (1991) that made the big impact, going to No. 3 in the UK charts. "Fire" (1991) also made the Top-20, after which they released their debut long player The Prodigy Experience (1992), which sold over 1 million copies in the UK alone. By now word was out about their live performances – an intense combination of Tubeway Army style keyboard-lurking (Liam) and full-on mental moshing (Keith and Leeroy). Clearly Underworld's Karl Hyde must have been paying attention – it was now possible for an electronic dance act to be exciting live, instead of just po-faced avant-garde. Music For A Jilted Generation (1995) was next – a hard techno banger of an album that made no concessions to the loved-up house massive. However, it was the release of "Firestarter" from their third opus The Fat Of The Land (1997) that really put them on the mass media map. Fearful that the track and its provocative video were inciting arson, the inevitable tabloid frenzy ensured The Prodigy were a household name by the end of the year. "Breathe" (1995) was even bigger – the beats so massive that it crossed genre boundaries to be popular with metal fans, rock heads and house fanatics across the country. The time was right to really push their luck, which they did with the release of "Smack My Bitch Up" (1997), a track almost specifically designed to simultaneously fill dance floors and appall the politically correct. It was a huge hit and they were at the top of their game. Time then for some time off, which ended up being seven years, before Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned (2004) was released. This proved to be more of a solo effort from Liam, but Keith was back for some live action at the end of the year. Future releases are entirely dependent on how much time Liam wants to spend away from the golf course, but there always seems to be a market for his brand of high-energy crowd pleasers.

Born and raised in Braintree, Es***, Howlett was trained in classical piano from childhood. At the age of 14, he mixed songs recorded from the radio using the pause button on his cassette player. It was the time he went to school at Alec Hunter High in Braintree when he first got influenced by hip-hop music and culture. He learned breakdancing alongside his crew called "The Pure City Breakers", and DJed in his first band Cut 2 Kill before starting to write his own music. He decided to leave Cut 2 Kill after an episode at a Hip/hop Jam, The Dj gave a shout out to the 'Chelmsford Massive' which were seen as outsiders from other crews at the Jam. Liams crew decided it was best to leave, during their exit they were held up at knife point, one of the members of Cut2Kill then pulled out a gun on the attacker but no shots were fired. Liam then felt he would never fit in with this scene anymore, and moved on.
Having had his fill with the prejudices and the vibes in the hip hop scene, Howlett gained interest in electronic music. He became connected to rave music when he went to his first rave in 1989, at the age of 18, which was held at "The Barn" in Es***. He became hooked immediately and from this point in time onwards he would spend his time recording and mixing rave tunes in his bedroom.
Howlett's first appearance in the mainstream came in an episode of Rapido, hosted by future Eurotrash presenter Antoine de Caunes. It showed Howlett mixing in his bedroom.

Keith Charles Flint (born 17 September 1969 in Braintree, Es***, England) is a member of the British electronic band The Prodigy. Flint was born and raised in the Es*** town of Braintree. In the late 1980s he met the DJ Liam Howlett in a rave club and expressed his appreciation of Howlett's taste in music. After receiving a mixtape from Liam Howlett, the tape's B side had a few of Liam's own tracks on it that he made in his bedroom studio 'Earthbound'. Keith came back to Liam with great enthusiasm, insisting that Liam should be playing his tracks up on stage, and that Keith himself and his friend Leeroy Thornhill would dance to them. Soon after, in 1990, he joined Howlett's new project, The Prodigy[citation needed]
Originally he was only a dancer, but in 1996 he was the vocalist on the hit single "Firestarter". The accompanying video showcased Flint's new, punk look. This trend continued with the next Prodigy single "Breathe", on which Flint again performed the lead vocals. The 1997 album The Fat of the Land featured Flint's vocal contributions to several tracks. In 2002 the single "Baby's Got a Temper" was released. It was heavily influenced by Flint's punk style, which led to Howlett later discrediting the song as representing The Prodigy. On the next Prodigy album, Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned (2004), Flint did not perform any vocals, although he did sing on one of the tracks on the "Hotride" single[citation needed] The next album has been recorded and is due to be released some time in 2008
at some point in 1998, it became common place for youths to suggest that they were "Keith Flint", sort of a cockney rhyming suggestion of being skint (having no money). This tradition still stands as of 2008 in England
Flint has also experimented with several side projects, including the bands Flint and Clever Brains Frying.
The video for "Firestarter" as well as Flint's outlandish appearance were later parodied by "Weird Al" Yankovic on his eponymous television show. In one episode, Al flips through channels and happens upon a made-up version of himself dressed identically to Flint. He is heard singing: "I'm so angry at my idiotic barber / Got a stupid hair-cut, a really stupid hair-cut"
Flint is also a keen motorcyclist. He recently rode the 1500 miles from England to Southern Spain, to attend the 2007 Jerez Moto GP races.
During the late 1990s, when The Prodigy were at their commercial peak, Flint became known in the UK press for his extensive body piercing and tattooing. In an interview, he stated that his most painful tattoo was the text "Inflicted" across his stomach. He stated that it felt like he was on an altar being ritualistically scarred. The tattoo was designed by a fellow bandmate Liam Howlett.
Included in this interview, believed to have originated in the now defunct British Music magazine Select, was his express desire to have his penis pierced

Keith Palmer (born 21 March 1967, in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, England), best known as Maxim is a Vocalist/MC of the British electronic band The Prodigy. He is known for his fierce style of appearance in both music videos and live shows, often wearing coloured contact lenses and kilts. His fierce style is also vibrant in the lyrical sense; in live shows he is known to scream and shout to hype up the audience. He is married and has two sons and a daughter.
