Position: Core Networks Engineer
Reports To: Senior Core Networks Engineer Unit: Core
Department: Operation

Job Description

 Ability to diagram, implements, and maintain both logical and physical network layers.
 Fair Cisco background, must have CCNA [Progress of CCIP or CCNP is a needed]
 Must have been using Cisco equipment in a design and/or troubleshooting environment for 2 or more years (Service Provider experience desired).
 Hands on experience with Cisco 7200 [12000 series routers is a plus].
 Work with MPLS networks and implementing and supporting MPLS VPN configurations.
 Fair experience with BGP/OSPF configuration and troubleshooting.
 Fair experience with a variety of WAN/LAN technologies but must include ethernet, POS, ATM and PPP configuration and troubleshooting.
 Experience with Cisco QoS technology design, implementation and troubleshooting.
 Experience with Juniper M series and/or an E series product is desired.
 Linux administration skills are a plus, for the maintaining/configuration of network management software.
 Familiarity with RIPE address space management and the allocation of network resources is a plus.

Responsibilities:

 Complete daily work requests and service orders.
 Assist with the day to day running of the core network and client solutions, along with other team members, deal with network support tickets.
 Provide network support as and when required by other departments and clients.
 Implementation of network projects [Share in Design]. for example, infrastructure upgrades and bespoke client solutions.
 Implementation [share in Design] of specific client facing projects.
 Working as part of an out of hours on-call shift rotation to provide high level support to the NOC team function.
 Ability to coordinate effectively with other members of the team and with other engineering and non-engineering teams.
 Must have a structured approach to work, helping define and comply with best practice working methodologies Huge scope for career development and growth.
 Support after hours network troubleshooting if needed
Qualifications or Skills

 Bachelor’s Degree from Engineering – Computer Science or Communications.
 English and Communication Skills needed.
 Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to work in team.

Job Description:

• Confers with personnel of organizational units involved to analyze current operational procedures, identify problems, and learn specific input and output requirements such as forms of data input, how data is to be summarized, and formats for reports.
• Writes detailed description of user needs, program functions, and steps required to develop or modify computer program.
• Studies existing information processing systems to evaluate effectiveness and develops new systems to improve production or workflow as required.
• Prepares workflow charts and diagrams to specify in detail operations to be performed by equipment and computer programs and operations to be performed by personnel in system.
• Conducts studies pertaining to development of new information systems to meet current and projected needs.
• Plans and prepares technical reports, memoranda, and instructional manuals as documentation of program development.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications And Skills:

1. Bachelors’ degree in Communications Engineering or Computer Science.
2. 2+ years experience in an ISP networking environment with at least 2 years in a senior position.
3. TEAM PLAYER with EXCELLENT communication and interpersonal skills.
4. EXCELLENT English.
5. Advanced (Not Basic) skills using MS Office suite such as Word, Excel, Project and Visio.
6. Excellent report writing skills.
7. Effective problem-solving skills with excellent analytical skills.
